Description

AT&T Inc. is a US holding company operating in the communications and digital entertainment services industry. The company's subsidiaries provide voice, video and broadband services to more than 355 million people and businesses in the US and Mexico, as well as pay TV in 11 Latin American countries. The company provides high-speed fiber connections to more than 1 million US businesses, high-speed Internet connections to more than 57 million US costumers; and HD and Ultra-HD video for the United States and Latin America. AT&T's Business Solutions segment provides business, governmental and wholesale customers, and individuals with wireless services through employer-sponsored plans, advanced IP-based services including VPNs, Ethernet related products and broadband, as well as traditional data and voice products. The Entertainment Group segment provides video, Internet and voice communication services to residential clients in the U.S., while the Consumer Mobility division provides domestic wireless service, to consumers and wholesale and resale subscribers, and the company's International segment provides entertainment services for Latin America, as well as wireless services in Mexico. In 2015, AT&T acquired Mexican mobile operator Grupo Iusacell S.A.B. de C.V. from its former controller, Grupo Salinas. The same year it acquired NII Holdings' Mexico unit, Nextel, including spectrum licenses, networks, retail stores and subscriber portfolio in Mexico. With these acquisitions, AT&T plans to merge both companies covering more than 400 million consumers and businesses in Mexico and the US. Also in 2015, the company took over digital television provider DirecTV, both the US and Latin American operations. AT&T is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and it was incorporated in 1984 under the name Southwestern Bell Corp (later SBC Communications Inc.).
