Description

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is one of the leading sources of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean, providing loans and grants, as well as technical assistance and research in order to promote education, poverty reduction and agricultural activities. The Washington, DC-based IDB is owned by its 48 member countries and financed by bonds issued in international capital markets. It has provided funds to over 15,000 initiatives since being created in 1959, ranging from energy, transport, water and sanitation, urban development and housing, and health, to SME development. In this regard, the IDB, the Inter-American Investment Corporation and private equity investment firm Abraaj Group started a partnership in 2015 to boost equity investment and expertise in the SME segment in Latin American and the Caribbean.
