Minera Michilla S.A.

Company Detail

Description

Founded in 1959 Minera Michilla is a Chilean company engaged in the exploration, mining and production of copper ores in Antofagasta region (II). Its main shareholder is Antofagasta Minerals, which, in turn, is controlled by Antofagasta plc, the mining arm of Chile's Luksic group. In 2014 it was announced that Minera Michilla's operations will cease by the end of 2015 because there are not enough reserves of copper to justify a large-scale mining operation. The mine is expected to produce around 30,000t of fine copper in 2015, a 30% less compared with 2014 and a 40% under the record production achieved in 2003.
