US-based Novelis is an aluminum rolling company with headquarters in Atlanta and operations on four continents, including 25 facilities in 11 countries. Formed in 2005 as a spin-off from aluminum producer Alcan, Novelis is currently a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries Limited, which in turn is the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group. In Brazil, Novelis operates two aluminum rolled product facilities in Santo André and Pindamonhangaba, which is also the largest aluminum rolling and recycling facility in the region. In October 2014, Novelis announced the closure of its Ouro Preto primary aluminum smelter in Brazil to focus operations on its core business of aluminum rolling and recycling. As a consequence of this decision, the company sold its power generation assets in the country, which were only used to supply power to its smelter operations.
