Peru LNG S.R.L. (Peru LNG) was established to develop, build and operate the Melchorita liquefied natural gas plant, in San Vicente de Cañete district. The company's operations include a maritime terminal, from which LNG is shipped, and a 408km pipeline connecting to the existing TgP pipeline to transport natural gas from the station in the mountains of Ayacucho to the LNG Plant located on the coast. The plant, comprised of two 130,000m3 cryogenic storage tanks, receives gas from the Camisea fields, in the Cusco department, and has a nominal capacity to produce 4.5Mt/y, with a daily natural gas processing capacity of 620Mf3 (17.7Mm3). Melchorita and the pipeline involved a total investment of US$3.8bn; it is South America's first LNG plant, and it started production in 2010. The Lima-based company was incorporated in 2003 and it is a joint operation of Hunt Oil Company, SK Innovation, Marubeni and Shell. Hunt Oil is responsible for the plant's operation, with Shell engaged in deciding target markets.
