US-based Verizon Communications Inc. is a provider of communications services whose operations are divided into three segments: residential, enterprise and wireless. The company designs, builds and operates global networks, information systems and mobile technologies. It also offers data services, voice service, broadband video, cloud solutions and 4G LTE internet service to consumers, carriers, businesses and government customers in 150 countries. Verizon was founded as Bell Atlantic Corp. in 1983 and began to operate under the Verizon brand following the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp. It is headquartered in New York. In 2006-07, it sold its local assets in Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela to América Móvil and a JV formed by América Móvil and Telmex.
