Brazil's Eletrobras is the biggest electric power company in Latin America.
The country's federal government holds 54.5% of shares in the firm, the parent of 14 subsidiaries.
A generator and distributor, Electrobras was created in 1962.
Eletrobras is an electric power company that provides electricity via its 180 hydroelectric, thermal, wind and nuclear power plants. It also owns half of the transmission lines in Brazil and six distribution companies.
It is also holder of 50% of the capital stock of Itaipu Binacional, a hydropower plant on the Brazil-Paraguay border.
In 2008, Eletrobras was authorized to operate abroad.
Eletrobras accounts for 61,534 km of transmission lines and 257 substations.
In terms of installed capacity, it accounts for 34% of the country's total.
