Barrick gold, with operations in four Latin American countries, is considered the biggest gold mining company in the world.
The Pueblo Viejo mine in the Dominican Republic, operated by Barrick and Goldcorp, produced 1.1Moz of gold last year. That makes it the biggest gold site in Latin America and the third in the world ranking.
Barrick, the gold mining company that controls Pueblo Viejo, expects it to produce 625,000-675,000oz of gold this year for its 60% stake in the project.
The 40% participation of Goldcorp should produce this year an output of between 420,000 and 460,000oz of gold, the gold mining company reported in its website. Those forecasts add up to 1.14mn oz of expected output for this year, a number that should allow Pueblo Viejo to keep the first spot in the region.
