Production has been reduced at Brazil's Reduc oil refinery after a product leak caused a fire to rage out of control in a distillation unit, according to a local workers union.
Firefighters were still trying to contain the blaze on Thursday as black plumes of smoke reportedly reached heights of 10 meters. There were no reports of injuries.
State-run oil company Petrobras, which operates the facility in Duque de Caxias on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, did not immediately comment on the blaze.
"According to workers, the fire is destroying the entire [distillation] unit," the FUP workers union said in a statement.
Reduc is the third largest of Petrobras' 14 refineries, with capacity to process 239,000b/d of oil.
