Colombia's Cundinamarca autonomous regional corporation (CAR) will invest 480bn pesos (US$168mn) on the recovery efforts for the Fúquene lake.
In an interview with Radio Station Caracol, CAR head Néstor Franco said the goal of the initiative is to recover 70% of the lake's surface, and it will involve the Cundinamarca, Santander and Boyacá departments.
The cost of the project is small when considering the country's "historical debt" with the lake - and its importance for the central regions of Colombia, according to Franco.
Works are expected to begin during 2H17 and completion is expected to take no more than three years, he said.
