The Frontera complex will be a run-of-the-river hydroelectric project in southern Chile's Biobío region (VIII). The plant will span the municipalities of Los Ángeles and Mulchén and use water from the Biobío river. The machine house would have two principal and one secondary Kaplan-type units. Design flow would supply the central SIC grid via a 220kV transmission line. The project is being developed by Inversiones Frontera Sur SpA, an affiliate of Energía Llaima.
