Project Details

The project consists of the extraction of sea water and its desalination in a plant by reverse osmosis. The plant will be located in the sector of Punta Zorro in the city of Caldera, form which water will be lifted to the different supply points in the cities of Caldera, Chañaral, Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla, currently supplied by the Copiapó river aquifer. The construction of the plant will be carried out in three stages, with the objective of reaching a maximum final capacity of 1,200 liters per second (l/s) of treated water: First stage: total capacity for 450l/s. Second Stage: capacity of 450l/s (reaching a total of 900l/s). Third Stage: capacity of 300l/s (reached 1,200l/s). Construction is expected to take approximately 24 months.
