Description

The project calls for an 18.4km bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor connecting Paraguayan capital Asunción with the cities of Fernando de la Mora and San Lorenzo, both within Asunción's metropolitan area. The project, known locally as the Metrobús, is aimed to speed up public passenger transport in the capital and surrounding areas. Paraguay's public works and communications ministry (MOPC), the municipalities of Asunción, Fernando de la Mora and San Lorenzo, and Paraguay's urban reconversion and transportation modernization program are developing the project. Metrobus is part of a massive integrated passenger transportation system, which considers further corridors to Asunción metropolitan cities Ñemby and Limpio and integration with a future interurban commuter rail. The IDB-funded project includes three terminals, 26 stations, and electric-powered busses with capacity forecasted at 300,000 passengers/d.
