Project Details

The project aims to expand the operation of Minera Centinela, both in terms of its processing capacity and mine life, incorporating new sources and using existing capacities, complemented with new facilities, in order to consolidate the operation of the company in the Region of Antofagasta. Desarrollo Minero Centinela is seeking to mine Minera Centinela's Esperanza Sur and Encuentro pits. The project will be implemented in two stages: • Stage 1: Mining of the Esperanza Sur pit, feeding the new concentrator plant at a rate of up to 110,000t/d of sulfide ore, as well as collecting and leaching of oxide ore. The effluents will be sent to the SX-EW plant of the oxides line. Stage 1 will demand an investment of US$2.7bn. • Stage 2: Joint mining of the Esperanza Sur and Encuentro pits, feeding the Centinela concentrator at a rate of up to 180,000t/d of sulfide ore, in addition to oxide ore beneficiation. Effluents will be sent to the SX-EW plant of the oxides line. This stage will also look to maintain the operational continuity of the oxide ore operation from the Encuentro pit, extending the life of the Óxidos Encuentro facility by approximately nine years. Stage 2 will require an investment of US$1.65bn. The project will require an average of 9,000 workers during the construction phase and 2,890 during the operating stage.
