Description

The offshore Marlin field covers an area of 137km and is located in Brazil's Campos basin. It is one of the country's highest-producing fields and one of the main sources of oil for export. Petrobras operates and wholly owns the field. Marlim was discovered via well 1-RJS-219-A in 1985. It is estimated to hold reserves of 1.7Mboe, with peak production of 586,315b/d in 2002. The field currently produces around 390,000b/d. The field was developed with the help of offshore wells, subsea manifolds and production platforms. Three seismic surveys cover Marlim. The first one was acquired in 1986 (appraisal context), the others, in 1997 (reservoir characterization context) and 2005 (reservoir characterization and monitoring context). The field produced the first oil in the pre-pilot production system during 1991-1993 with the production of two wells. Initially, Petrobras had planned to drill 135 offshore wells and 20 water injection disposal wells connected to a new floating production unit (FPU). Currently, there are eight FPUs with 129 offshore wells (86 production wells and 43 water injection disposal wells), five subsea manifolds and two FPSO units. The initial development phase of the field ended in 2002. Some US$5bn has been invested in the field in more than 15 years.
